Josh Vowell & The RumbleThis three piece progressive and traditional BLUES band was formed by Josh Vowell in November of 2007 in Topeka, KS. Comprised of Josh on guitar and vocals, with Myrl "Biggs" Brown on bass guitar, and Mike "Funky" Lindsay on drums, Josh Vowell & The Rumble set out to make their mark on the beautiful American tradition of the blues. In 2008, Josh Vowell & The Rumble began enjoying some major successes in the professional music world. The band also got to open for Wayne Baker Brooks out of Chicago, IL at Knuckleheads Saloon in Kansas City and they made it all the way to the Final round of competition at The Kansas City Blues Challenge at Knuckleheads. They also won The 1st Annual "High Octane Band Brawl" hosted by x-92 FM and sponsored by Supersonic music, placing 1st out of 6 other area bands. 2008 was a great year and 2009 and 2010 are going to be even better as they have bigger fish to fry with the release of their first CD, not to mention the upcoming IBC competition. They also have started their own merchandise line. Josh's musical talent comes naturally. He was raised amongst a pian-playing grandmother who loved the "boogie-woogie" and an uncle and older step-brother responsible for his love for the guitar. Josh formerly played with the local rock band Simply Driven until 2007 when he decided his heart lied with the Blues. Mryl's has been playing bass guitar for nearly 30 years and is affluent in several various styles and genres of music. Some of his former projects include The Stereotype, San Diego, CA, the bands Smokehouse and Midwest Blues All-stars, Wichita, KS and Metallurgy, Lawrence, KS. His influences include the great Rocco Preistia from Tower of Power, Marcus Miller from David Sanborns' band, Tommy Shannon from Double Trouble, Roscoe Beck, GE Smith, Chick Corea, Freddie King, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, John Paul Jones, James Jamerson, Donald "Duck" Dunn and others. They have all played various styles of music from rock, jazz, fusion, R&B, soul and funk, and the blues. Their original material is a mix of all their influences, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Rocco Preistia from Tower of Power, Marcus Miller from David Sanborns' band, Tommy Shannon from Double Trouble, Roscoe Beck, GE Smith, Chick Corea, Robin Trower, John Paul Jones, James Jamerson, Donald "Duck" Dunn and others. Albert, Freddie, and BB (the 3 Kings) are all current influences alongside Robben Ford, early Fabulous Thunderbirds, Tab Benoit and Otis Rush.
